Listen to your brain. How many thoughts are going through it right in this very moment? If you're getting a ton at lightning speed, then you probably have ADHD. Don't worry! So do I! Here are some of the ways I've learned to handle it.
I always find myself running out of time or having the day just get away from me. And on those days, I always wonder what's wrong with my mind to keep e from living my daily life. The answer: ADHD. I've had it my whole life and I'd found that if I'm in the middle of a task or chore, setting a timer helps. Say you need to be on a conference call in an hour. Set a timer for an hour and that gives you a physical reminder that when it goes off, you need to be on that call.
Here's an example that I use in my life. I have to do the towels. Wash them twice and dry them. It's a routine. But, I tend to take all day to do them without timers because I start working on a story and forget that they're in the wash and I end up not putting them in the dryer until my roommate comes home at 6:30 or later. So now, what I do is when I put the towels in the wash for their first cycle, I set a timer for an hour and twenty minutes, which then gives me free-ran to do whatever I want until that timer goes off. Once it does, I reset it to another hour and twenty minutes after going down to wash them a second time. Once that timer goes off, I go down and throw them into the dryer and another hour and twenty minutes is set.
Now, granted, once that last timer goes off, I tend to forget they're in the dryer, but the timer system works the majority of the time for me. And I hope it works out for you.
Who here loves a good post-it note? I do! They help in ways you think wouldn't. They are perfect for reminders around the house if that's what you need, or if you know you need to pack something for a trip, but can't until the day of, then just slap a post-it either on the object itself or on a mirror that you look at during your morning routine. I will do both, or set a reminder on my phone and if I'm not in the middle of something, I'll pack it right after that reminder goes off.
But using the post-it system works. For example, when I'm getting ready for a day of just hanging out with my best friend, I remember I need to pack my Nintendo Switch, because we both play video games. However, I can't pack it the night before because it needs to stay on the charger overnight to keep the charge at 100% and I don't want it dying in the middle of a game. So, what I do, is I place a post-it on the dock it rests in that says "pack this", and then I'll even put a reminder in my phone at the same time. Then, the next day, when I'm packing and going around the house to get what I need, I'll see the post-it and immediately grab it to pack.
Now I have gotten in the habit of just packing it no matter what when I know I'm going to be hanging out with her, but when it was still new with me going to her house once a month, I needed the reminders everywhere.
I hope this works for you.
